Short Vowel Decks Course Description
The Bjorem Literacy Short Vowel Decks support speech-language pathologists, reading interventionists, educators, and parents in teaching foundational reading skills to young learners. This course provides a practical overview of how to use the decks, covering key terminology, relevant short vowel spelling generalizations, and a range of target skills, including rhyming, onset-rime, blending, and segmenting. Participants will learn how to use each deck individually to target a single vowel or combine decks to review all short vowels across reading, spelling, rhyming, vocabulary, and comprehension activities.

After this course, participants will be able to:
- Describe at least one way to use the short vowel decks in phonological awareness activities such as rhyming, onset-rime, blending, or segmenting.
- Explain how to adapt the decks for reading and spelling instruction.
- Define key terminology and short vowel spelling generalizations relevant to deck use.
