Links & Ladders

Instructional time is precious, and Links and Ladders is designed to make every minute count. This unique course introduces an innovative approach, using CVC "links and ladders," to equip educators, reading specialists, and speech-language pathologists with practical, engaging strategies for building strong foundations in reading and spelling from the very beginning.

Using CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) “links and ladders,” participants will learn how to design and tailor activities that integrate speech, language, and literacy. The CVC deck provides a flexible tool for targeting multiple language components—including phonemic awareness, sound-symbol relationships, syntax, morphology, semantics, and even speech sound production.

Through interactive examples, attendees will discover how linking words with meaning and images reinforces orthographic mapping, boosts automaticity, and supports not only typical learners but also struggling readers and multilingual learners. This course offers a unique opportunity to transform phonics instruction into a powerful pathway for literacy success.
